IN LIKE A LION……..

This winter seems like it is finally over!  I’ve been waiting it seems like forever and now the daffodils are finally up where I can see them.  Many are blooming already.  The worry of having a show too early has been changed to worries of an early season and no flowers left to show!  I could never be a farmer, I can’t control the weather.  I’m grateful that the heavy snows and ice are hitting other parts of the country now.  I’ve had my days of living by candlelight, and am glad it was only three times this winter.

We have a great series of event lined up this year.  I’m looking forward to getting back together after all the dreariness of the past few months.  I went to Camden, AK for my usual jump start of the season, and came back to see that spring is almost here, too.  I dug out 3,000 daffodils that were in Louisiana about to be bulldozed under for a highway widening project.  I get the chance to dig again at Shaw’s Nature Reserve (see article) and of course, in my own yard.  I will be reworking two beds this year, and am already labeling the colors of the unknowns and marking the clumps that can be divided for our exchange and sale.  This year, I plan to make a map as well, because the daylilies get so big that I lose track of my markers.  I can’t wait to get started!  It’s almost Spring!
