Container Gardening with Tropicals

A word about their plants…..they grow on and finish all of the plant material on their prairie nursery in southwestern Illinois. Perennials are exposed to a hardy outdoor climate year round, and will not require fussy acclimating when you receive them. Plant them out directly, and watch them take off. Annuals and tropicals are greenhouse grown, although they are acclimated to somewhat cooler temperatures in spring before they are shipped. Plants should be planted out when night time temperatures remain above 55F degrees.

Chris gave a wonderful presentation on Container Gardening with Tropicals. She had great slides and inspired us to buy the Tropical plants she brought with her, for our own container gardens. Please visit Cottage Garden at there website or their current location in Piasa, IL.

Thank You Chris we really enjoyed your inspiring presentation!!

Cottage Garden

Biography for Chris Kelley, our July Speaker

Chris Kelley of Cottage Gardens in Piasa, Illinois. Chris started Cottage Gardens in her back yard on Christian Hill in Alton, Illinois (near St. Louis Mo.) in 1985. The 'Mom' nursery became 'Mom and Pop' when she moved to her Dad's strawberry farm in Piasa IL (say Pie-a-saw) in 1987, and her husband Bill came to work with her.

Doing what she loves best, she gets to buy just about every plant that catches her fancy and work with beautiful living things all the time….yes, life is good. Unlike the X-Marts, she seeks out the new and unusual and her passion is displaying them in creative and innovative ways and sharing them with you.
